Christians would know that in the Bible, Paul addressed the issue about grooming our bodies especially our hair. He refers to nature but not of fashion or law. This is taken from 1 Corinthians 11:2-16. 2 Now I praise you, brethren, that ye remember me in all things, and keep the ordinances, as I delivered them to you. 3 But I want you to realize that the head of every man is Christ, and the head of the woman is man, and the head of Christ is God. 4 Every man who prays or prophesies with his head covered dishonors his head. 5 But every wife[c] who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head, since it is the same as if her head were shaven. 6 For if a woman does not cover her head, she might as well have her hair cut off; but if it is a disgrace for a woman to have her hair cut off or her head shaved, then she should cover her head. 7 For a man ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God, but woman is the glory of man. 8 For the man is not of the woman, but the woman of the man. 9 Neither was the man created for the woman, but the woman for the man. 10 It is for this reason that a woman ought to have authority over her own head, because of the angels. 11 Nevertheless, in the Lord woman is not independent of man nor man of woman. 12 For as the woman is of the man, even so is the man also by the woman but all things of God. 13 Judge for yourselves: Is it proper for a woman to pray to God with her head uncovered? 14 Does not nature itself teach you that if a man wears long hair it is a disgrace for him. 15 But that if a woman has long hair, it is her glory, for long hair is given to her as a covering. 16 If anyone wants to be contentious about this, we have no other practice–nor do the churches of God.
This makes us question ourselves on who really does have the power over our bodies. Is it God? Does coloring our hair, piercing our ears mean we are shaming God? Is that what Paul was trying to tell us? Are men and women really that different just as what Paul said? Is hair as symbolic as Paul says it is?
There are movements that claim that women need empowerment. Women need to be given the rights that they deserve. But if you consider what Paul said, there is nothing that women can do about it. Since women are women and men are men.
Looking at the Religious aspect of it, God created us as unique beings. Which is why we should honor God and His temple. We each have our own individuality and we should thank Him for it.
On another note, we have our own preference on how we groom our body. Talks of Biblical standards are merely hypocritical.
Now let us go over and try to think if we have ever considered this thinking once in our life. Considering that we are too consumed on other things that it has not been talked before. It is important that we address this issue now. What are your thoughts about this?
